GM INNOVATIONS continue to work with the Merrion Square Innovation Network which was founded by Gráinne Millar in partnership with Fáilte Ireland in 2010 to develop new cultural tourism destination in Dublin.
This EU recognised model of tourism cluster development applied design-thinking innovation to build and develop a network of over 60 stakeholders across Government departments, local authority, tourism, culture and heritage sector to create a new vision for Merrion Square.
The innovation process and creativity techniques generated 80 customer-focussed new ideas by the network. So far, the testing and prototyping of these ideas have resulted in 200,000 new visitors and media coverage valued at €500,000 with 25% increase in overseas visitors to the area. In 2014 The Irish Times were attracted to Merrion Square to develop a whole new creative experience called Downstairs Dublin for Culture Night 2014.
The network has now formed a Cluster Management structure to implement their vision and strategy for the cluster and have secured investment from Dublin City Council, Fáilte Ireland a number of private sponsors.
